Studio Due Brings Alif – The Mobility Pavilion to Life Through the Poetry of Light.
A luminous celebration of humanity’s journey into the future at Expo 2020 Dubai.
At Expo 2020 Dubai, the world gathered to imagine tomorrow. Among its most iconic experiences stands Alif – The Mobility Pavilion, a gleaming stainless-steel sculpture of movement, designed by Foster + Partners and dedicated to the spirit of progress. Named after the first letter of the Arabic alphabet — the beginning of every word, every story — Alif embodies the timeless human desire to explore, connect and advance.
Studio Due is honoured to have illuminated this architectural symbol working alongside the visionary teams at David Atkinson Lighting Design (DALD) and Delta Lighting Practice — transforming its flowing shapes and dynamic landscapes into a living performance of light.
Where Architecture Begins to Move.
• By day, Alif reflects the sun.
• By night, Studio Due gives it a dynamic.
The pavilion’s dramatic fins, polished like mirrors, proved both a challenge and an incredible opportunity: to make light dance in harmony with form. Studio Due engineered custom RGBW LED systems, capable of:
• Caressing the curves of steel with colour
• Creating reflections that ripple like motion itself
• Remaining discreetly hidden, allowing architecture to shine
Every beam is precisely shaped, every reflection intentional — designed not just to illuminate, but to awaken emotion.
A Visitor Journey Painted in Light.
As guests enter Alif, light welcomes them — soft, warm glows reflecting off the ground beneath their feet, hinting at the path ahead.
On rooftop terraces, soft 3000K light invites conversation, connection, contemplation.
Deep underground, light speeds beside fast-moving vehicles, animating the tunnel with the thrill of velocity — an experience not just seen, but felt..
Across the landscape, lines of light pulse outward from the building like the expanding rings of innovation — each dynamic sequence giving the illusion that Alif is always in motion, even when still.
Technology With a Heart.
Every fixture is individually controllable via DMX, programmed through Pharos to compose immersive light scenes that begin at dusk — a nightly ritual that turns the Pavilion into a beacon of hope:
