WOOLLOOMOOLOO BAY
HOTEL BATHED IN COLOUR
Studio Due MiniCity enhances Sydney landmark
The proprietors of Sydney's Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel are very keen on continually refurbishing and changing their hotel. They approached The Design Troupe to come up with a solution for brightening up the exterior of the building, making it more attractive to prospective clientele. With the Olympics fast approaching, they really wanted to make their presence felt in the area.
When the owners heard about the Studio Due MiniCity and its ability to continually change the colour of their premises, they were extremely enthusiastic about the idea. Avsound Productions were commissioned to install the MiniCity's as well as the dichroics situated under the exterior awning of the hotel.
"The MiniCity's were the primary focus and the hotel owners are extremely happy with the result," said Rob Easton of Avsound Productions. "In fact they are so happy with the six MiniCity's installed, they intend to add another two to the ends of the buildings.
"Because we didn't need a long throw the MiniCity is ideal. They have a relatively low intensity compared to the CityColor and, in that respect, are far more controllable. In this situation we needed to be quite subtle in the intensities due to council restrictions. They also have a great throw angle, they're nice and tight with a very directive beam. They are absolutely ideal for short buildings such as this. The CMD150 lamp is remarkable in so far as they give you a very high colour temperature and 6000 hours of life. That's brilliant for this application"
